Are you covered for fires?

It has now become mandatory for all the non-domestic premises to carry out a Fire Risk Assessment in accordance with The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

These regulations apply in different ways to different building types and much advice has been produced since the publication of the RRO clarifying the different processes.

The OSH (Occupational Health & Safety – Directive 89/391 EEC) Framework adopted in 1989 has further introduced the objective measures to encourage improvements in the safety and health of workers at work

Fires can cause serious damage to people and places. About half of workplace fires are caused deliberately and about half of them are caused by things such as electrical faults, careless smokers and the misuse of tools that have naked flames.

Fire demands three things:

  • Heat (source of ignition)
  • Oxygen
  • Fuel

Take one of these components away and a fire cannot survive or start.

There are clear legal, moral, and business protection reasons to have the potential of fire in your premises risk assessed. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 places a strict obligation on all employers, building owners and most landlords to undertake a fire risk assessment on all workplace and commercial buildings. The Fire Safety Act 2021 has amended these regulations to ensure a responsible person is named. Bravanark Network offer professional and detailed fire risk assessments to assist in compliance with current UK legislation.

A fire risk assessment is a systematic and structured assessment of the fire risk for any given building or premises. This is completed for the purpose of expressing the current level of fire risk, determining the adequacy of existing fire precautions, and determining the need for, and nature of, any additional fire precautions
